1. Marijuana
This drug was legal to use for hundreds of years until it was banned in 1937. Some of the early American colonies grew the hemp plant back in the 1600s. Today, marijuana is still technically illegal, but is allowed for medical use in multiple states.
2. Cocaine
This drug is derived from the coca plant and has been in use for over 3,000 years. Cocaine was technically banned in the U.S. by the Harrison Narcotics Tax Act in 1914 but it didn’t become a controlled substance until 1970.
3. LSD
This drug wasn’t even discovered until 1943. After discovery this chemical formula was later bought by the U.S. government to use as for brainwashing and therapy. It wasn’t long before LSD became a widely abused drug, which is why it was banned in 1970.
4. Heroin
Do you know that “Heroin” was actually the brand name given to the drug by the company that created it. Bayer synthesized the drug in 1874 as a non-addictive alternative to morphine (Pain relieve). But, when it turned out that it was actually more addictive. Heroin became restricted in 1914 and was banned outright just 10 years after that.
5. Methamphetamine or Meth
It was created by a German company during World War II. Purpose of this drug was mainly given to soldiers to keep the stimulated during combat. But its addictive properties made meth-based drugs heavily abused in people, so they were banned in 1970.
